Just along the coast of the
Mar Menor from
Los Nietos lies Los Urrutias. This
coastal village belongs to the region of Cartagena and achieved popularity when it
became Cartagena’s Headquarters for their
Mar Menor Regatta Club.
The calm waters of this inland sea are perfect for sailing and attract many sailing enthusiasts all through the year. From the beach, the sea views are attractively broken by various islands and if we climb to the
top of the hill named El Carmolí we can appreciate the view even better. On the eve of San Juan, the 23rd June, a huge bonfire is held in this Saint’s honour and the people of Los Urrutias, along with any holidaymakers head for the beach for a long night of revelling.
Again, on 25th July, the fiesta of Santiago, the main action is on the beach
as barbecues are held all through the night as people wait for dawn as the propitious time to uphold the custom of taking a swim.
Los Urrutias offers various services and amenities to all its residents and visitors, although these are more active and available in the summer months.
The city of Cartagena is a mere stone throw away and has everything any family could need the rest of the year.
