Lo Pagan is the tourist side of the municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar and receives its name from the famous "baths of mud" that are found in the area of Las Salinas which are said to have curative-beneficial powers for rheumatic problems. This area is full of innumerable services and tourist facilities that make it a comfortable and animated place for the "summer vacation" as well as to reside in throughout the year.
The municipal term of San Pedro del Pinatar is of 217 km2 and at present their census is of 14.650 inhabitants. During the summer season this figure trebles.
During the 17th Century only settlers dedicated to the fishing and the exploitation of the saltmines occupied the area. It was in the 19th Century when Lo Pagan was transformed into the center of recreation for the inhabitants of San Pedro del Pinatar, who built their summer residences in this corner of the coast, attracted among others things by the curative properties of the Mar Menor.
It then converted into one of the largest summer destinations of the Costa Calida with an extensive commercial activity.
Lo Pagan now is a buzzing town with a great atmosphere throughout the year due to the variety of people living there.
Its beaches are great and varied in form but the main ones offer all the amenities and services anybody could need. |
