As the translation of the name suggests, the Town of Canteras takes its name from the famous Roman Quarries dating back from the first and second century A.D. Located at some 4 kilometres from the town the existing quarries can be visited.
The extraction of silver supposed a fast development of the city of Cartagena
and its surroundings. The quarries are now protected and enjoyed by tourists throughout the year.
The town of Canteras offers all the main services to its neighbouring villages and country homes.
